Frugal Tips: Budget Friendly Family Entertainment - Empress Of Drac

N.B.: The following is a guest post written by my fellow blogger, David Buchanan. - EOD

With the cost of living ever on the rise, it can be difficult to find activities that the entire family can enjoy without putting a serious dent in your wallet.? If you are someone looking for cheap activities for the family, check out the following options for budget-friendly family entertainment.

Movie Night

One of the easiest and more inexpensive options for cheap family entertainment is family movie night.? There are a couple of inexpensive ways you could go about arranging movie night.? The first would be renting a movie from either Redbox or even downloading a movie on Netflix and then picking up a couple of bags of popcorn to snack on.

If Redbox and Netflix are not in your budget, consider setting up a film to watch on Youtube.? Youtube now offers a variety of movies that you can stream for free online.? If you can, do some preplanning for your family movie night to make sure you can get the movie that you and family want to see.

Game Night

One popular choice among families looking for cheap family entertainment is family game night.? If you do not already have a few board games around the house, there are several inexpensive ways that you can pick up games for the family.? Many dollar stores carry knockoff versions of popular board games, and many have inexpensive versions of chess, checkers, and numerous decks of playing cards.

Another option that is often overlooked is thrift stores and yard sales.? Quite often you can find board games at a yard sale for $1 or less and in some cases you can find complete quality versions of games like Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, and other games.? Let the person selling know your plans with the games and they may even give you a better deal just to get rid of them.

Other Activities

Another option for inexpensive family entertainment is picking family activities that can be done cheaply.? For example, you could go to a local trail and go hiking as a family.? If everyone in the family has a bicycle, consider going on a family ride.

Something as simple as a game of basketball in the backyard can be another fun activity for the family.? The type of family activities you choose will depend on what is available in your area and you may have to do some checking around.? Keep in mind that some campgrounds will allow you to camp out as a family for free or at a reduced rate if you do not have to hook up an RV.
